Remote sales positions are one of the fastest and most secure ways to have an Independent Income and live financially free since you can easily turn it into a freelance job and have the potential to turn it into a business yourself.

What is Remote Sales?

Remote sales refer to the notion of a sale being made where the seller and the prospect never meet! This isn’t a new notion – in fact, remote sales first emerged through mail order methods where goods were examined through detailed catalogs and payment information was forwarded by the buyer in the post.

Today – due to the proliferation of fiber internet protocols – sellers can now conduct high-resolution video conferences without latency and compatibility issues of the past; enabling buyers to engage sellers agnostic of location impediments.

Types of Remote Sales

Unfortunately, there are different types of remote sales that it is never mentioned in the industry and people are using them with their own intention and meaning. Knowing the distinction

Remote Sales Representative (Out of Office)

One of the major categories that existed before the era of the internet is when the position of remote job started, meaning a sales position that you never go to the office of the company you work for or maybe only for the hiring process.

If you just simply look at positions available on Linkedin as remote sales you will quickly understand that roughly one-third to even half of the positions available are meant for people to be available in another city or state and sometimes even another country. So what they mean is you become a Sales Representative of that company or brand.

Remote sales representatives communicate with customers on a regular basis to sell one product or multiple services via phone calls. These professionals do the same job as regular sales reps but with the option of making commissions and performing responsibilities from home.

You focus on developing each client relationship to foster opportunities for future business. In this role, you also establish sales targets and outcomes, set deadlines, and coordinate sales efforts among team members.

Virtual Remote Sales

Virtual remote sales is the virtualization of traditional sales functions. This includes everything in the conventional deal-making process, ranging from pre-deal interactions and “kickoff” meetings to customer service and data gathering and analysis.

Internal functions of the sales team, such as the onboarding of new reps and the continuous coaching of these sellers throughout the span of their time with the company, also fall under the umbrella of remote sales.

Beyond that, there is a great deal of room for variation (and occasionally, improvisation) within the broad remote sales framework explained above. Most of the companies that sell remotely do so in ways slightly different from one another, just as their execution of other essential business functions varies on a case-by-case basis.

Please note that virtual sales could be very similar to sales representatives doing their job online with annual payment and insurance or they can work as complete commissions which creates the third part of freelance agent sales reps.

Freelance Agent Sales Rep. (Commission Based)

Salespeople who work on straight commission only earn money when they complete a sale. No sale equals no income. Since the company doesn’t provide a base salary, it can offer higher commission rates which often attracts the best salespeople.

The straight commission structure allows salespeople to function like independent contractors who set their own hours, which saves companies money in taxes, benefits, and other expenses. The company is out money only when the salesperson brings in revenue.

Now thanks to the technology and the new apps and websites developed during the COVID period a new sector of commission-based virtual sales agents appeared in the market. These positions have their own fancy names such as High Ticket Sales, Low Ticket Sales, Appointment Setters, Closers, and more which we will explore further here in Independent Income.
